Biocide efficacy studies

With the global tightening of biocidal regulations on the horizon, achieving efficient use of biocides while still maintaining coating efficacy is paramount. 

The Centre has a strong track record of determining the efficacy of different biocides against key micro and macro fouling organisms.  We use cutting-edge analytical techniques alongside established ecotoxilogical methods to determine biocide effects, and how suites of biocides interact with each other and the environment.  Let us help you ensure your next generation of coatings is safe and effective.

Marine antifouling and protective coatings are not a “one size fits all”. Increasingly demanding sub-sea marine operations require specialist coating systems designed to cope with unique environmental conditions.

Whether you require a controlled experiment to mimic a particular environmental scenario, or a bespoke field-based coating test programme using scientifically robust testing principles, the Centre has the experience and expertise to de-risk your operation. Specialising in testing coatings in your operating environments we provide, in situ, targeted feedback on performance and efficacy of coating systems.

Novel coating development

Antifouling coating technologies are developing rapidly with greater demands in terms of biocide regulation and compatibility with hull maintenance. 

Developing new antifouling coatings is expensive and time consuming, so ensuring your efforts are dedicated to the most promising prototypes is essential.

The Centre assists its clients, in confidence, with coating development right from the concept stage, through to bespoke biocide efficacy studies and specifically designed laboratory and field tests. We make sure your prototype coatings are compared to relevant industry standards and tested using scientifically robust methods to provide you, and your investors, with maximum confidence in the results.
